This is a diet that consists of four cycles and according to Michael Moreno, its creator, it can be personalized to help you lose anywhere from 10 to 100 pounds easily and safely.
Could this diet, designed by a doctor, finally be the answer to fast, permanent, and sustainable weight loss?
Most diets leave dieters worse off than before – drastically cutting calories and giving them boring food options, and this causes them to overeat once they are done and usually making them gain more weight than they lost.
What is the 17 Day Diet?
As mentioned above, the 17 Day Diet is broken up into three categories.
Cycle 1: is called “Accelerate.” This is where you are limited to eating only 1,200 calories a day, and you are promised weight loss of 10-15 pounds.
Cycle 2: is called “Activate.” This is where your food plan is alternated with a slightly higher-calorie diet, supposedly to “confuse” the metabolism, keep your diet interesting, and stimulate fat burning.
Cycle 3: is called “ Achieve.” This is where you are able to eat healthier foods and your overall weight loss decreases.
Cycle 4: is called “Arrive.” This final stage is when you arrive at your ideal weight. You follow meal plans from the first three cycles and are allowed more leeway on the weekends.
You are also supposed to exercise 17 minutes during the first two cycles, and 150-300 minutes a week in the later cycles.
How Does the 17 Day Diet Work?

The whole diet in centered around portion control and controlled indulgence. It also encourages healthy substitutes and drinking 64 ounces of water a day.
What Do the Experts Say?
Most critics like that this diet features good food choices, overall message of clean eating, avoiding unhealthy carbs, enjoying foods that you love, and regular exercise. What they dislike is the weight loss theory and restrictions of healthy foods like fruit and low-fat dairy.
Basically, they don’t like Moreno’s reasoning behind the different cycles and food options, but regardless, it will still work – just for different reasons.
American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Keri Gans, MS, RD says, “There is no evidence that you can fool your metabolism by calorie-shifting but the low-calorie plans featuring healthy foods are a good approach to weight loss.”
